I saw a tweet courtesy of @Cam_Barber. Right now it's hard to move without seeing something related to the Corona Virus, Covid-19.

It really struck a chord. Over the last two years the team and I have really learned that the adage of KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) really counts.

I wholly agree that talking about “social distancing” is vague, there is room for error, misinterpretation. If we told everyone to stay at home, and 2 meters away from anyone outside. That is very simple, no room for error there.

Very similarly with these two road signs:

Which is clearer? Which do you instantly understand?

Hopefully it will come as no surprise that job adverts should follow the same ruling.

So, here’s my simple message.

If you want to increase levels of diversity, think about your advert copy.

If you want to improve the quality of your applicants, think about your advert copy.

If you want to maximise the reach, think about your advert copy.

If you don’t have time to think about your advert copy. Make the time. It’s an investment. And if you really can’t? Get someone else to do it for you.
