You all know I'm an advocate for Flexible working. It's good to see that the Government is taking this seriously as well.
In collaboration with Working Families, a charity organisation, they have conducted a large consultation on visibility of employers family related leave and flexible working policy. The results can be found in this article.
What I find interesting about this is that it reinforces the importance of being flexible as an employer. Not all employees are money (salary) focused. A fair and positive work life balance is critical in candidates eyes and plays an key role on their choice of employer.
It also has a strong influence on retention of the workforce. Strong family related leave and flexible working policies means you giving employees options, demonstrating empathy to family life and understand the importance of being present with your family.
The results are very strong and very loud. It will be interesting to see what develops out of all of this. Watch this space!
As the government consultation into whether employers should have to publish their family-related leave and flexible working policies comes to a close, research has shown that parents and carers are overwhelmingly in favour of greater transparency.
